Sea Bass at Terra in Hillcrest
This is the second time I've dined at Terra. The Entertainment book offers a 2-for-1 coupon and it introduced me to try Terra last year. This time, I also used OpenTable to make the reservation. OpenTable is the reservation system used by many fine restaurants and they also offer Dining Rewards for frequent hungrry monkeys. Certain peak hour slots may not be available via OpenTable, or that there's a certain limited number of slots available, but most of the times you are able to conveniently book a slot with just a few clicks. I like that.
Terra has the roast duck on the menu, but both times they're out of it. My dining buddy TopPig's favorite is the roast duck so it's quite disappointing that they are out of it again. Next time, better call ahead. Together, we ordered the crab cake, steamed mussels, Kobe sliders (mini Kobe beef burgers), sea bass, the ribeye special and creme brulee.
The taste:
The Kobe sliders are a treat, the grilled medium rare meat patty is tender and deliciously sandwiched between two mini buns that are also lightly toasted. Their steamed mussels are garlicky and the wine base not too powering. The sea bass is cooked just right and well within expectation. The rest of the dishes are up to par but not particularly memorable. That doesn't mean they don't taste good, just within expectation.
Bottom line:
Good place to dine out with friends.
Type of food:
American
Price range:
$20-30 entrees

Although this post is about Hillcrest, there is a new diner in North Park that has still not been mentioned on this site!!!
The Commonwealth Cafe in San Diego is being hit with major restrictions for hours of operations. The Commonwealth Cafe was scheduled to be a late-night type of diner, but unfortunately the city of San Diego is only allowing the diner to stay open until 2 am. Some of the controversy that has stirred up about this situation is the fact that Jack in the Box and Denny's have later hours and are within the same zoning region, but for some reason these restaurants do not have to comply with the same rules as the Commonwealth Cafe.
To help allow this new diner to operate at its convenience there are multiple locations throughout North Park where people can sign petitions. These places include : Bluefoot, Luigi's Pizzeria on 25th, blissful bean on 30th, Santos on Thorn.. and Rebecca's on Juniper. For more info please visit http://www.thecommonwealthcafe.com/ and help spread the word!!!!

Hey Everyone,
It is true, the Commonwealth Cafe has opened. I have yet to go there, but most of my colleagues ate their for lunch and say it's delicious. I, personally, cannot wait for the increadible mac and cheese item and a slice of the home-made pie! I believe that everyone in SD should come to the North Park area and visit the new diner!!!!!!
